« First, I have no evidence that Girard has ever used any electronic
or other technical means to do his tricks. It is well-known that he's
a conjuror, and anything I have seen (films at the Pechiney lab in
Paris, for example, where his sleight-of-hand can be plainly seen)
shows simple manual tricks.
Now, I'm getting more than a little annoyed at people claiming (a)
they've won my $10,000 prize, and (b) I tested them and they did
miracles. Yes, I did `study' J-P Girard. It was at Grenoble in 1977 at
a test attended by Dr. Chris Evans, Dr. David Davies (then editor of
Nature Magazine) and others. I will not go into all the details, since
it's covered in my book, "Flim-Flam," pages 284-292. The bottom line
is that Girard failed 100%, and was caught cheating. The very definitive
test was videotaped by Dr. Charles Crussard, who had agreed in advance
to provide us with all records of the test and as part of that promised
us all copies of the tape. He later decided that he would not give us
copies of the tape, and he ended any further correspndence on the
subject, claiming that Girard had succeeded when he had not. There was
not even a hint of success in anything Girard did. But, as usual, Crussard
and Girard have re-created the events in a very imaginative way, and
they both want you to believe that the test was a success. It was a
dismal failure. Both Crussard and Girard lied about the events of that
day, and I see that Girard is continuing to lie.
Chris Evans died some years ago, but Davies and three other witnesses
of the test are alive and well, and prepared to offer verification of the
events. Incidentally, Ranky was so useless that he fell asleep and snored
-- evidenced on the videotape -- and he had to be excused from the tests
because he could not stay awake. To this day, I don't know what he was
doing there.
In short, Girard failed the only tests I did with him, and now he is lying
about it. »
Une autre citation, toujours à propos des mêmes tests :
« The tests were absolutely negative. With all test objects, under
controlled conditions agreed to in advance by all parties, Girard was
unable to produce any effects whatsoever over a period of three and
a half hours. »

Et puis ce mail de Randi de juin 2005, pour confirmer que le post cité
était bien de lui :
« Yes, that extract does represent my statement on Girard. As you probably
know, the prize is now at one million dollars and still applies to Girard,
who is of course still welcome to apply at any time. But he will not, of
course.
The most important element in the success of Girard was Crussard. He
was VERY naïve, a poor observer, and could not accept that he could be
deceived. It’s the scientists who make the success of the “psychics.” »
